  Institute of Legal Executive (ILEX) L3 and Level 6

Entry Requirements

Students with a minimum of 4 GCSEs or equivalents, you can take your first step into the legal profession and train to be a legal Executive-a qualified lawyer. Law Graduate: With a qualifying law degree you may be exempted from the academic parts of ILEX qualification. The Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX) offers a highly costeffective route to becoming a lawyer and is accessible to those holding a wide variety of qualification levels.

ILEX is the ideal route to obtain a law qualification for recent school leavers, graduates, legal support staff, mature students, those changing career, as well as those with family commitments Law and Practice will have first achieved the ILEX Level 3 Certificate in Law and Practice, which draw from the same choice of units. As such, you may already hold five of the required 10 units. To achieve the ILEX Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice students must ensure that their choice of units complies with the following qualification rules: Students must take units 1-5, 16 and 17. Students must then take 3 other units, of which at least 2 units must be Practice units the third unit can be either a Law unit or a Practice unit.

ILEX Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law

The ILEX Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law is the second stage of training to become a Legal Executive and is equivalent to honours degree level. The syllabus requires you to study four courses, one being a legal practice subject with its linked law subject and two other law subjects of your choice. It is at this stage that you will need to decide what area of law to specialise in. Each subject is assessed by a three-hour unseen exam.
